Hard drive problem Macbook Pro

My late 2008 macbook pro cannot read any file from the drive (eject the disc automatically after disc insert), this happened after the update from OS 10.5 to 10.6 leopard, please advice if there are any programme need to installed for the aforesaid problem, million thanks!!
