Dell Precision M6700应该同HP EliteBook 8770w 同级
(显卡都系K3000M or above)
不过价钱都应该系30k以上

低一级 thinkpad w530 / HP ZBook 15 / Dell Precision M4700 三部比
应该系hp最新
cpu用haswell同有新显卡

不过都系个句
同样价钱
desktop效能一定比notebook高

Because, for desktop, i can only use it in office. So notebook is portable.

HP 17 inch 8770w with K3000 is selling at $24000. and Dell M6800 with K3100M is selling at $21000.

Dell 15 inch m4800 with K1100M is selling at $16000. Lenovo w530 with K1000 at $20000. Zbook is not selling in Hong Kong yet if i am not wrong.

Is there a big different between 17 inch and the 15 inch? Because i will be adding a monitor to the laptop anyway.

Thank you!

Dell 15 inch m480 ...
zbook is on the hp hong kong website so you can probably call hp and ask for the price
http://www8.hp.com/hk/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5387800#!tab=specs
http://www8.hp.com/hk/zh/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5387509#!tab=specs

15 or 17 inch won't affect the external display.
but it seems that the 17 inch ones are equipped with better display card (and more expensive...)
if the price difference is not huge, you should go for the ones with K3000M or K3100M (apparently K3100M can match the performance of K4000M)
the performance is a lot higher than K1000M
K1100M ~ GT750M
K3100M ~ GTX770M

Thanks taje for the kind advice.

Then i think Dell M6800 is a better option (lower price than HP elitebook 8770w)

I think you should check if you can add a SSD to the workstation.
It will increase the speed (by a lot) when you load up large files.

Do you know how much it cost for notebook SSD 512GB?

Because i had thought of changing it. However, i think it will be quite expensive. So i am not sure is it worth to do it.

thanks

i think a 512gb ssd is under $3500
is there somewhere to add a msata ssd? (and keep the original harddisk)
if yes, you can use one with a smaller capacity (128gb or 256gb) just for windows and softwares

it seems that there would be a thinkpad workstation
with the use of 4k mon

actually, I would like to know what is the difference between a workstation and a very fast nb
e.g. in terms of the efficiency, what is the difference between alienware m18x and the above nb?

You will see a different when you are using 3d drawing software, such as Revit, 3d max, solidwork, etc.

The rendering time and performance on 3d software is better for workstation (the above notebook)

The differnet is the graphic card used. Quadro for workstation and GTX for gaming.

Quadro graphic card cost much more than GTX card, so the price for workstation is higher
There is a time when i got a high end gaming desktop and a quadro notebook, and both render the same picture, the rendering time for the notebook is faster than desktop. (that is the different)

But workstation will not perform as well as a gaming one on game.

According to Dell website, there is a Optical bay caddy for additional hard drive or solid state driveIs that mean that i can add another harddisk beside the original HDD?So for example, window OS on SSD and other saved files on HDD?

yes
i think you can add a ssd for dell m6800
if you buy a 128gb ssd, i think it is enough for the windows and some softwares.
if you buy a 256gb ssd, you will have more space to save files so you can open them up more quickly.
