楼主，我用的是debian4 ，也遇到和你类似的问题。我的解决方案如下
1.下载 gmp 和 mpfr 压缩包 ， 在 binutils 之前编译
gmp 压缩包缺省配置configure 然后make , make install 这样会吧 gmp 库安装到 /usr/local 下的include和lib
2. mpfr 配置，注意指定 gmp 的安装路径
3. 设置环境变量 export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib
4. 编译binutils
5. gcc ，注意指定mpfr 和gmp的位置。这样就不会出现，什么suffix的问题了。
在之后的编译过程中，也许到某一步要 unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH ，整个过程可以继续进行。

小弟也遇到同样的问题，不知道哪位 高手能指点指点！

在此说说小菜的方法，本人把binutils，glibc以及gcc都重新编译1遍，问题就解决了

就是如果你在遇到这个错误的时候，已经编译了第2遍GCC，就只要重新做这第2遍就好了，其他同样如此。
我的方法是把gcc文件夹以及gcc－build文件夹删掉，重新解压后再编译的

很可能是你使用的是64为宿主机系统。据前辈介绍。lfs 6.4不能用于64位。为此，我折腾了10多天。编译无数次。
我现在使用clfss的svn版（是64位那个），可以编译到完成工具部分即交叉编译部分。

宿主机32位的。
config.log和error提示与楼主完全相同，试过好多方法依然无果。
摸索等待中...

这里是gcc pass3。删掉重新编译也不行，还是相同的问题。我从第六章重新做起，到section6.14还是这个问题过不去。

我今天在VB＋F11下编译lfs6.5时，在这里也碰见同样的问题，还没有找到原因
