internet connection to ubuntu 10.04

Just installed ubuntu on my desktop and tried to install driver for usb wifi thru ndiswrapper but it failed(driver successfully installed but no option for turning on wireless connection afterwards)

when i try using cable connection, another problem. system detected network but cant connect, how do i configure it or is there any problem of the driver?

If your ubuntu 11.10 is a fresh installation, you had better upgrade to a new version (ubuntu 12.10) or other Linux distributions (such as Linux Mint), as they are usually distributed with the latest driver programs.If you think the new version may cause performance-related problem, that's probably caused by the Unity, and you can switch to gnome 3 or gnome classic (gnome 2).
