为什么css的width 只对中文有效？

我划了一个div css是这样写的：
.content{margin-top: -3px;margin-bottom:10px; padding: 20px 0;background: #fcfbf8;border-bottom: 1px solid #cfcfcf;border-right: 1px solid #cfcfcf;width:688 !important;height:auto !important; height:670px;min-height:670px;}


我输入中文进去时 是正常显示，但是碰到英文就无视 width 长度，全部在一行显示。
这是咋回事啊？

英文之间得有空格，你肯定是乱输一通，一大串都没空格吧
