Dilemma between Macmini and Upgrade Macbook

Mine Macbook is 2010 C2D
Now my macbook is 250HD and have a 1TB external hd
But now I didn't have enough work space for photos and videos.
it is quite hot during high work load processing such as simple editing.

I am thinking of upgrading my macbook to a 128GB SSD to replace boot drive and a 1TB HD replacing DVD drive since I didn't use the DVD drive for over 2 years.

Or will it be a good choice for me to buy a mac mini?

I would go for 256 or 512GB SSD instead of 128GB.

To be honest, I would rather get a new computer because your current laptop has been 4years old, how much longer you can expect even with this SSD upgrade?!

For example I would buy the macbook pro retina with limited budget.
So I will only buy the based model.

Can I save my iphoto library and fcp library on a external hd?

A lot of online discussion regarding placing iPhoto Library onto an external. I placed my iPhoto library onto a NAS, it will function ok with imports and exports. But..

I cannot sync with iTunes, whereas my music on the same NAS will sync to my iDevices no problem, just iPhoto fail.
I'm running 10.9.3 with iTunes 11.2.2. I will try making a small iPhoto library on my internal disk to test to see if the problem is the NAS or iPhoto.

将fcp events 同 project两个folder搬落ext.hhd, 我都系咁做, link得番无问题, 我而家做同save都响ext.hhd, usb3.0速度ok...

PS: 不过最少要留一个吉既event/project响主机

楼上D师兄讲得啱架…唔出街一定系mac mini, 最平果部i5都劲过你部c2d 两个世代la

你要驳外置, usb3.0 or TB快过你部macbook usb2.0 N倍, 迟D有松动又可以自己upgrade ram 同 ssd

部macbook留番做D轻便野, 拎出街做presentation囉...

系惊佢转头出新款啫, 不过如果真系有新款D野我估都焊死晒无得俾你自己搅...

okay. after my current project i will try it. thank.
but my mac is still workable,
do you recommend i use this mac as a storage one while i buy a new macbook or buy a thunderbold storage for backups and time machine?

如果买新mbp, 旧果部我会卖, 帮到3几k都好(太平就唔好卖)

如果买imac/mac mini, 旧果部我会留番闲时上网, 出厅入房用…backup既野就梗系用番ext.hhd...
