su root or login root

Hi,
I find there is some customized linux with application.
When I use login account root and type the password.
It is not allow to login.
But if I login with specified user and password.
Then I use command "su - " and type root passwd.
It allow you to switch to "root" account .
Or if i use "su - root" and type password .it is not allow to login again .
It is strange I cannot login if I specified to use "root" account .

How to make this setting ..
Please advice in detailed.

Which Linux are you using? Ubuntu will not allow you to login as root, you must login as a normal user, then use su (aka superuser) to get privileges. Yes, use 'su -', not ' su - root'.

You can't login as root in Ubuntu is because the password is set to a random character string during installation.

Your reference link is not my case.

My case is :

I can use "su - " to switch to "root" account from non-root account
But for the same account , the command " su - root" must be disabled or make it not work .

It is my case .

Are you saying you cannot 'su -' in your installation of CentOS?

My case is :
I find a customized Centos linux .In this OS , it is only allow use "su -" to switch root.
If I use "su - root" .. it is not work.

I want to know how I reporduce in a normal centos only ...
